Program Description
BW/NC has been offering University of North Carolina System students study abroad opportunities since 1996 and the program for UNC system students is based at the University of North Carolina Greensboro's campus.

The University of Tübingen is recognized as one of the leading academic institutions in Germany and Europe and has received numerous rankings and awards for its quality of research and academics. Several Nobel laureates are associated with the University of Tübingen, especially in scientific fields.

The University of Tübingen is one of Germany's most famous and oldest universities. Tübingen is one of Germany's five classical "university towns" and therefore has no central campus. Instead, university buildings are spread out around the old city center. Because the city is so centered around the university, 1 out of 3 people in Tübingen is a student.

Thanks to its central location and extensive transportation system, the city of Tübingen is a perfect starting point to explore Germany and the rest of Europe. Stuttgart International Airport is only 34km away and there are also several interesting sites around the city. Click here for tourist information as well as some weekend excursion ideas. Other popular destinations for weekend trips are the Swiss Alps, Austria, and the Alsace wine region in France.

Coursework

As an exchange student, you are eligible to choose a wide variety of courses taught in English. Courses in English are offered in the subject areas of Business, Political Science, Humanities and Science, click here for a list of courses in English.

Students may choose from a full curriculum of courses taught in German. You must have sufficient German proficiency (GER 204) if you wish to take classes in taught in German. A full list of courses taught in both English and German can be found here. The regular university courses are listed in the campus portal.  You are able to view courses if you select “Öffentliches Vorlesungsverzeichnis (no login necessary as it is public/öffentlich). This way you can already get information on the courses and prepare a schedule.

You only register for some of the courses (usually those who are limited in the number of participants). For others you need to register directly with the professor or you only need to register for the exam. The information should be provided in the course details in the campus system.

Prior to and during the semester, students can take part in German language classes.

Housing & Meals

Students can stay in university housing (Studentenwerk) or in private housing accommodation. The rental prices include all basic services. The Studentenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim also offers free telecommunications services in most rooms and flats/apartments (including Internet access).
